Patricia W Smith, M.D. specializes in anterior segment at her specialty practice in Raleigh, NC.  Dr. Smith’s specialties include:

Dr Smith graduated with honors from Duke University. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Tulane University, winning the Hauser prize in Pathology. Her residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Wilmer Institute of the Johns Hopkins Hospital was followed by subspecialty training in cornea and external disease at Johns Hopkins under Dr Walter Stark and the late Dr AE Maumenee.


Dr Smith served on the faculty of the University of Virginia in the departments of Ophthalmology and Pathology before her research led her to a sabbatical at the University of Alabama, Birmingham on a Prevent Blindness grant to study the molecular biology of Fuchs’ corneal dystrophy.

Dr Smith has authored numerous articles and chapters in textbooks in her subspecialty, has authored patient education materials for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and served as a reviewer on a number of professional publications such as the American Journal of Ophthalmology, The AAOs Preferred Practice Patterns, and the NIH-funded Corneal Donor Study.

She founded Triangle Eye Physicians in 2002, and has served as the medical director of Lasik Plus in Raleigh.

Dr Smith is a board-certified Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and a member of a number of state and local professional societies.

Dr Smith has achieved certification in a number of excimer laser platforms (Nidek, Visx, Wavelight), femtosecond platforms (Intralase, Ziemer, LenSx), and the KAMRA corneal inlay.


Chelsea Lefebvre, M.D.

Dr. Lefebvre is a native of Irvington, NY, a suburb of New York City. She attended Duke University for her undergraduate degree where she achieved honors in biology and economics. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. She then spent a research year at Duke University School of Medicine working in the departments of Infectious Diseases and Ophthalmology, leading to research publications and presentations.

Dr. Lefebvre continued on at Duke University School of Medicine for her medical school, during which time she continued her research in ophthalmology. She decided to pursue her residency training in ophthalmology at New York Medical College. During her residency training, she developed a research interest in corneal diseases. She then went on to complete a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Davis.


Dr. Lefebvre is married to Tom Lefebvre, a medical student at Duke University School Medicine who plans to become an orthopedic surgeon. They have 3 young children and live in Durham.

Dr. Lefebvre has a special interest in the evaluation and treatment of dry eye disease and has established the Dry Eye Clinic at Triangle Eye Physicians.
